First of all,welcome back.
After the house’s founder, Margiela, retired in 2009, an unidentified team was left in charge of the house.
New Renzo Rosso, president of OTB, which owns the house has announced Galliano as the new creative director of the house.
“John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time,” Rosso said. “A unique, exceptional courtier for us that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that Fashion Dream that only he can create.”
Galliano will oversee the design of all Margiela lines, including couture and women’s ready-to-wear. His first collection will be “an artisanal line” held during Paris Fashion Week in next January.
About John Galliano…
Galliano who spent almost a quarter of a century at Christian Dior had to left after an anti-Semitic scandal in a Paris bar in September 2011.
After a period of rehab Kate Moss and Oscar de la Renta gave him a second chance. (based on a one-season of design residency at Central Saint Martins, London.) and running the Autumn/Winter 2013 show.
Everybody knows a lot of Galliano’s scandal… But do you know Galliano’s previous life when he was just one student at Central Saint Martins? Is not rare he is one of the most extravagantly and talent designer.
Since 1984 with his French Revolutionary-themed “Les Incroyables” collection for Central Saint Martins, Galliano has been one of the most influential designers, dedicated to women feminity, glamour and creativity.
He even dressed Princess Diana in his debut for DIOR.
And if you don’t have it clear yet you can check out Christian Dior Haute Couture | Spring/Summer 2007 where under the soundtrack “Madama Butterfly” Galliano showcased one of the most exquisite shows of Fashion history, full of embellishment, with clear gestures of Japanese elegance…
What you think?
In our opinion Galliano is the perfect match, we can’t forget Margiela was a revolutionary, and the concept of deconstruction was in every of his designs. He was graduated a year before the Avant-garde fashion collective the Antwerp Six.
Clear follower of Rei Kawakubo(creator of Comme des Garçons) who turned the fashion scene upside-down with their eccentric and ground-breaking designs.
Martin Margiela and the Antwerp Six would carry on the work, revolting against the luxurious fashion world with garments of oversized proportions such as long arms, and with linings, seams and hems on the outside.
Now its Galliano turn… we are looking forward to it.
