Soulland presented its SS16 collection entitled ‘Iron Wheel Club’ at St George, Bloomsbury on Saturday 12th June 2015 during London Collections: Men.
An immediate energy bounced off every side of the room when entering this beautifully kept and yet transformed space. From the bright eye catching graffiti art, to the mellow almost meditative music. The presentation, and parts of the collection is designed in collaboration with the young, American artist Charlie Roberts, famous for his pop cultural elements. Exlcusively for the ‘Iron Wheel Club’ his collaboration created unique, wearable art pieces spread across jacquard woven patterns, Cordelia embroidery and as prints. A clear indication of this collaboration was featured in a white leather jacket, with Roberts hand painted drawings. His art work was effectively as the backdrop of the presentation.
The lines essence is deeply rooted in distinctive African-American stories and in the shift from rebels to generally accepted citizens, the collection merges different styles and fabrics, all converging in freedom, rebellion and cultural innovation. Each style connected through hope and defeat. A sense of cultural differences, and the sense to belong where one doesn’t was present, and executed in the form of wearable expressive art. Roberts artwork merged perfectly into place within this.
