Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff.
They met at Central Saint Martins where Meadham studied womenswear and Kirchhoff menswear and launched Benjamin Kirchhoff, four years later after graduating in 2002, Meadham Kirchhoff was born.
With the motto: “Feminine designs that are considered and executed in an old fashioned manner.”
They always had the inspiration of Vivienne Westwood: “She was incredibly important to me when I was younger. She’s the only one I can think of who has done, as far as I can tell, exactly what she wanted, forever, and seems to still be very much in control of what she does.”
Last time that Meadham Kirchhoff collaborate with Topshop, any merchandise sells out almost before it makes the rails. No less than 25,000 sets of Meadham Kirchhoff nail stickers sold through the high-street chain.
This season, consisting of frilly baby doll dresses, mohair jumpers and sparking platforms, the collection represents the quirky duo’s dazzling best. Ged silk bloomers, ankle-length ruffled chiffon dresses and jackets made out of what looks like the grandest vintage furnishing fabrics imaginable, all executed to a level not often found outside the Paris ateliers.
Inspired by the idea of a band or gang which named ‘The Cherrys’, the overall aesthetic was influenced by Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, Kembra Pfahler and glam rock
Kate Phelan, TOPSHOP Creative Director says,
“The pieces are special and exciting, they capture their bitter-sweet world of fashion.”
