If you’ve ever moved home before, then you’ll know just how stressful it can be. Indeed, studies have shown that the level of stress it induces is similar to getting a divorce. However, just because most people experience stress when they move, it doesn’t mean you have to — or at least not to a severe extent. Indeed, is it possible that moving home could even be fun? While there will always be moments of stress, it might be possible to make the overall experience an enjoyable one. We take a look at how to do this below.
Celebrate Your Old Home
A lot of people think the stress from moving comes from having to get everything ready in time. And no doubt, that is a big component. But there might be an even more stressful aspect that people overlook, and that’s that mentally changing home can be taxing. We are creatures of habit, after all. One way to get around this is to come to terms with the move before you actually change homes. Your current space has been important to you; take the time to celebrate all that it’s done for you, for better or worse. It’ll close the chapter on that house, so you’re ready to move on to the next one.
Remove the Stress
Many people get caught out by just how much work is involved in moving home, and this is what causes the stress levels to rise in the first place. When you’re planning your move, look at simplifying the process as much as possible — you’ll find that it makes everything more bearable. There are a couple of ways to do this. The first is to get the ball rolling as early as possible. You can pack things up well in advance of your actual move date. When it comes to the move, hire a local removalist company to physically transport your goods for you. That’ll allow you to just enjoy the day, without having to move all your belongings yourself.
Roping In Friends
Life is always more fun with friends, so get them involved! If you’re not hiring a company to do the moving for you, then they can help with that job. If you are, then just invite them to a part of the day. You’ll find that the jokes and good vibes that your friends provide help to keep the mood light. If they’re helping with the move, then be sure to offer food and drinks and so on.
Toasting the New Home
Once you’ve got the keys and you’re in your home, don’t stress about unpacking straight away. You’ll have had a long day and that will have taken its toll. Instead, toast the new home with a celebration. You can get takeaway and a couple of bottles of wine, and enjoy the moment. There aren’t too many days more important than the move to a new house — save the unpacking for the following days and celebrate all that you’ve accomplished.
